All about BLOCKAID

Here at the Wendover Arm Trust we are busy restoring the largely derelict Wendover Arm of the Grand Union Canal, from Bulbourne to Wendover.

We have been active for nearly 20 years, and so far have restored the first part of the Arm from Bulbourne to Little Tring.

Our volunteers have rebuilt 600 yards of the canal, using modern materials and methods.

In addition, we’ve paid for an award-winning road bridge over the canal at Little Tring, and visitors now enjoy the restored length complete with boats and wildlife.

Now we are busy rebuilding the canal from Little Tring through to Buckland - a length of about 2 miles.

Our volunteers first clear out scrub and undergrowth then dig out the proper profile of the canal before lining the sloping sides with the concrete blocks. The canal bed then gets lined with a special clay material which keeps the canal watertight.

Each block has to be brought to the canal and put in place, before being filled with concrete to stabilise it.
